Holy Innocents (December 28th)

O God,

how can this be endured?

Babies slaughtered then,

          children bombed now?

The innocent massacred then,

          villagers mutilated now?

Mothers inconsolable,

systematic torture,

apathy,

mindlessness.....

O God,

how can this be borne,

except by you

and with you

as it always has been?
